This brief video summarizes Ivan Illich's ideas found in such works as Deschooling Society and Tools for Conviviality (link to book).Illich's ideas seem more relevant now than they did thirty-five years ago. Our institutions will only serve our needs, rather than us theirs, when we invert them to tools that help us to learn rather than teach us, to be healthy rather than be cured and empower us rather than yoke us to external control.
